Moving from Year 6 to 7 is a smooth transition at Edmonton County. You are guaranteed a place and reapplying is not necessary. All you need to do is tell us!
At Edmonton County School, our Key Stage 3 Assistant Headteachers and the wider pastoral team work together with all our primary children to make sure your child has a smooth transition to secondary school.
Following the Key Stage 2 SAT assessments conducted at school, members of our pastoral team carry out visits to all our Year 6 children expected to join ECS in Year 7. During the visits, we also meet with the Year 6 teachers to gather information about our new students to ensure we have comprehensive information about each child, to support a successful transition.
We hold a number of events each year to provide parents / carers and students with key information about our school to ensure they feel prepared as well as ease any anxieties about starting secondary school. Further information and details will be shared directly with the parents /carers of children who will be joining our school each September.
Welcome evening - We hold an information evening for parents/carers and students to inform them about the transition process and what life is like at ECS. At this event, we provide information about the key staff at our school, our school day, expectations, rewards and sanctions and the curriculum subjects to be studied in Year 7. This is one of the first opportunities to meet the Year 7 pastoral team at ECS. All parents and students are invited to join the event.
Transition ‘taster’ day - All new students are invited to attend a transition ‘taster day’ at ECS. This is a chance for students to experience secondary school lessons, enjoy lunch time with us and ease any anxieties. This is a good opportunity to establish friendships early on before the academic year begins.
1-1 School tours - Our Campus SENCos liaise with the families of students with Special Educational Needs to organise 1- 1 school tours for students who may benefit. This is in addition to the transition day.
Summer School - we offer a week-long free summer school for students to develop friendships as well as develop a sense of community prior to starting at ECS. Each day, students participate in enrichment activities, reading for pleasure, sporting events as well as Literacy and Numeracy activities. At the end of the week, students are given a certificate of participation and enjoy a picnic to celebrate the week.
